The Goerke House is a magnificent colonial building characterized by Art Nouveau elements and is listed as a National Monument of Namibia.
It was built as a home for Lieutenant Hans Goerke. Goerke, who arrived in Swakopmund with the German Schutztruppe in 1904, became head of the diamond company in Lüderitz after his service at the end of 1909. Today it serves as a guest house.
