The High Bridge spans the Periolbach south of Raeren Castle. It was built of bluestone in the 18th century. The carters, who were on their way with their loaded carts from Botz, Rott and Pley in the direction of Raeren Castle to get to Aachen, could use the Periolbach as a route. The purpose of the high arch is to enable the sometimes highly laden carts to pass through.
The entrance followed at Katzenkönkel, where the river water was dammed.

At that time, the high bridge was built with a clear height of 6m, so that carters could drive under the Periolbach, which served as a path, with their stoneware made in Raeren. There were no paths or roads as we know them.
