The village church in Schlagsdorf is a late Romanesque / early Gothic two-nave hall church.

The church is a stately brick building on a fieldstone base with an indoor hallhouse of four yokes, a drafted choir and a massive west tower with an overgrown saddle roof. The oldest surviving component of the hall church is the nave, which was begun two-nave with three columns in the middle in the 12th century. It was vaulted in the Romanesque-Gothic transitional style at the beginning of the 13th century, modeled on the vestibule of the Ratzeburg cathedral. However, the outer walls were originally not designed for vaults, which has always led to static problems. End of the 15th century, the choir, which was previously probably as Lauenburg and West Mecklenburg in the transition period typical rectangular choir (box choir) was executed, enlarged and received a 3/6 final. At the nave, neo-Romanesque arched windows and pointed arch windows corresponding to the choir were used. Mid-16th century, the massive, square (6.70 × 6.70 m) west tower, whose brick walls are 1.80 meters thick. In 1623, the Gerwekammer (sacristy) was rebuilt on the north side of the choir; the corresponding extension on the south side, referred to as a morgue in 1619, was completely renewed in 1802 and rebuilt into a sacristy in 1872. Major renovations took place in 1795 (vault, exterior), 1797 and 1818 (tower) and 1872-1875 (thorough renovation with enlargement of the windows, walling of the south portal, opening of the west portal, new stalls and painting) instead. Structural construction measures took place after the German reunification and are not completed because of the associated financial expense to this day. In this respect, security measures have been taken in the interior of the south ship for the time being.

The brick church in Schlagsdorf was first mentioned in the document of 1194 in which the bishop of Ratzeburg and the cathedral chapter laid the division of a tithe of the village Sclavekestorp, accordingly, the church is listed in Ratzeburg tithe register of 1230. But Schlagsdorf was already called a villa Zlavti in 1158 during a border determination.
From 1238 Schlagsdorf was entirely in the possession of the cathedral chapter. In 1239, Pope Gregory IX confirmed. the cathedral chapter the patronage right. From the significant castle complex in the lowland on Mechower lake nothing has been preserved. In the legend of the bishop Ludolf it is said that during the transfer of his body from Wismar to Ratzeburg in 1250, the bells of the Schlagsdorf church were rung by themselves. The pastors were under the chapter. It was not until 1570 that the first Protestant pastor was called M. Daelingius, thus implementing the Reformation idea in the parish. As part of the principality Ratzeburg place and church belonged since the Hamburg comparison (1701) to Mecklenburg-Strelitz.
The church was extensively restored in 1875. The 1969-1971 carried out repair and restoration work have led to a further approximation to the original room impression. The paintings show a characteristic red-white triangle frieze on the plaster and bricks.
