The name Javalambre comes from the Arabic Jabal `Amr جبل عمرو, which means 'mountain of Amr' (Amr is a male given name).

Another possible etymology is red mountain (djebel hambr), due to the abundant outcrops of red clay from the Keuper (Secondary Era).

After all, due to its second etymology it is "another Peñarroya" ;)
