The "Memorial for the Victims of the NS "Euthanasia" Murders" commemorates the murder of tens of thousands of patients from sanatoriums and nursing homes as well as "racially" and socially undesirable people. During the Nazi era, Wernecker patients were also forcibly sterilized on the basis of the law on the prevention of offspring with hereditary diseases. In October 1940, the sanatorium and nursing home was cleared to make room for ethnic Germans and resettlers from the Balkans. Some 370 Wernecker patients came to the killing centers of the so-called "Action T 4" and were killed there. Most of the other patients were transferred to the Lohr sanatorium and nursing home.
