In return, the emptied buckets were handed down again. On days when there was little water in the sump, the watermen were used for auxiliary work in the promotion. In mines with high water supply stages were installed in the water shaft at short intervals, on which the watermen then stood. Later, handpumps were used instead of the scoops. On each stage stood a water tank, into which a water pipe pumped the water. From this water box, the water was pumped to the nearest water tank until it finally arrived over days.
