The house was built in 1920 by a national of the Côte-de-l'Or (today in Ghana). It was later acquired by Mr. Ganamet, a large Lebanese-Syrian trader who made several modifications to it.
On July 3, 2012, the France district of Grand-Bassam, in which the house is located, was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Ganamet house is listed as an “exceptional heritage” there.
The architecture of the house is different from that of the buildings made at the same time, and the plan of the floors follows a layout typical of housing in the Middle East, a mark of the transformations of the second owner: each floor has a central crossing hall and rooms located symmetrically on either side. In accordance with the customs of the time, the ground floor of the house was occupied by shops and warehouses, while the halls of the two floors of accommodation were accessible by a staircase on the rear facade. A service courtyard behind the house comprising different rooms, kitchens, water points and storerooms.
The external appearance of the house is neo-classical, with a decoration of Ionic columns and pilasters in plaster. The first floor has a full-length balcony with an openwork reinforced cement railing. The house has the particularity of being covered by a mansard roof, a rare case in Grand-Bassam.
The house is now in ruins. fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_Ganamet
