Monumental fountain inaugurated in 1346 but completed in 1419. A splendid example of early Renaissance architecture. It draws water directly from the ancient aqueduct of Roman origin.
Currently the fountain in the square is a nineteenth-century copy of the original. The marbles of the original project by Jacopo della Quercia can be visited in the museum complex of Santa Maria della Scala
