Bardone is located along the ancient path that connected Parma with Tuscany in Roman times. In the Lombard period this road became the main connection between the Po Plan and Rome, in the Middle Ages it was named Via Francigena and became one of the most important routes for pilgrims.
Bardone is in the middle, halfway along the Apennine Route and the church was an important point of reference for travelers.
Recent archaeological excavations have shown that Bardone Church is truly ancient. The 13th century church was the cellar before the 17th century changes and was smaller than today's.
The exterior is in Romanesque style with a beautiful bell tower with four arched windows on each side, closed.
