          Art occasionally finds its own way to awaken and warn.
          A remarkable art project that I came across by chance on my walk in Funchal.

          Right at the entrance to the harbor in Funchal, hikers come across a huge, free-standing fish sculpture. It is an installation by the Portuguese artist Bordalo II, who created the impressive grouper out of colorful plastic waste in an astonishingly realistic way.

          With his imaginative mixed media sculptures, Bordalo II has created a new, lively art form as a seamless transition between expressive street art and memorial.
          Through his upcycling plastics, he triggers a fruitful discussion about environmental protection, resource conservation and recycling.
