Taking a break on the grounds of the Old Airfield is an absolute must.
The Old Airfield is one of the central excursion destinations in Frankfurt's Green Belt and offers a unique nature experience. Leisure and recreation, environmental education, nature conservation and landscape management are combined at this place. In 2003, the site, a former helicopter landing pad of the US military, was redesigned. Most of the runway was preserved and offers plenty of space for leisure activities. Some asphalt and concrete areas of the former helicopter landing pad were partly unsealed, partly broken up, crushed and left in place. Nature has now reclaimed the resulting fields of rubble and scree. The special thing: apart from the grove of trees on the picnic lawn, nothing has been planted.

At the Old Airfield, nature guides provide information about nature from March to October.

On the Nidda, next to wide meadows and the former tower, there is another object of comic art: a bronze sculpture of the Green Belt animal, the mascot of the Frankfurt Green Belt, drawn by Robert Gernhardt.
At the Old Airport:
Wild animals must not be disturbed!
During the bird breeding season from March 1st to September 30th, dogs must be kept on a leash and kites are not allowed to fly.
Motorcycles, quads, e-scooters, model airplanes and drones are not permitted all year round.
The Old Airport is located in the landscape conservation area
