The stairs run from ul. Podgórze and end at the top at ul. May 3 (the so-called "Hungarian Gate"). Otherwise known as "Sanok serpentines".

In 1977, they were renovated by the Public Roads Region. K. Sitko and K. Sowa were appointed as responsible managers.

In April 1989, the traditional name was restored, changing the former Roadworkers' Stairs to Serpentine Stairs.

A link was created between the Serpentine Steps and the Franciscan Steps. At the top of the stairs there is a tenement house adjoining to the south at ul. 3 Maja 15, where the restaurant "U Szwejka" was opened. On the wall of this building, next to the stairs, in the form of graffiti, the Sanok house of the Beksiński and Lipiński families was immortalized, and an information plate was placed on the trail in the footsteps of the good soldier Szwejk, which concerns the existing street above on the promenade.
