The Consolidation colliery was founded in 1871. One of the most important entrepreneurial personalities of the Ruhr region, Friedrich Grillo, was also involved. Between 1863 and 1906 seven shafts were sunk for "Consol". The eighth, Schacht Oberschuir, was built in 1908 as Seilfahrt- and Wetterschacht. He was named after the longtime managing director Johann Oberschuir. In 1940, the rope ride was stopped, only its function as a weather shaft retained Oberschuir until 1984. Then the shaft was filled. The mine is considered one of the most beautiful in the Ruhr area.
