The Villa Lindenhof is a high-class residential building with outbuildings in Herrlingen near Ulm, which is now used for cultural purposes. The villa is surrounded by a large park and embodies a well-conceived Gesamtkunstwerk of Art Nouveau. Because of its proximity to the city of Ulm and its beautiful location, Herrlingen had been a preferred summer resort for affluent citizens of Ulm since the middle of the 19th century, when they built their country houses as "summer residences". This included the owner of the Wieland-Werke, the entrepreneur Max Robert Wieland, son of the Ulm art and bell founder Philipp Jakob Wieland. In 1904 he commissioned renowned Munich architect Richard Riemerschmid to design and build a villa for the site in Herrlingen. The stately ensemble with adjoining kitchen, a bowling alley, gatehouse, coach house and horse stable was ready in 1906. Riemerschmid was also responsible for the entire interior design and furniture of the villa. In 1919, the landlord commissioned the sculptor Wilhelm Nida-Rümelin to design several sculptures to beautify the building.
