Unfortunately Ziendeweg is open again for all traffic
The prohibition signs on the Ziendeweg between Nieuwkoop and Zwammerdam were removed on Thursday morning and the enforcement cameras were disabled. The road is now fully accessible to motorized traffic.
On April 8, 2022, the road closed for a 9-month trial period. The municipality of Alphen aan den Rijn conducted the test to investigate the effect of a closure on the Ziendeweg, the routes through Zwammerdam and the surrounding road network.
More than a hundred objections have been lodged against the traffic decree, which have been declared inadmissible by the municipality because, according to the municipality, the objectors are not interested parties. Proponents of the closure called on the municipality to keep the road closed until a final decision is made. Alderman Breeuwsma recently promised that the road will actually reopen after the 9-month trial period. He indicated that he attaches great importance to the fact that the government fulfills its agreements and that the road will therefore open again after the end of the trial.
The municipality will use the coming months to analyze the results of the trial and come to a decision about the future of the Ziendeweg.
