The Rietpad is a wooden path that runs across bog fields.

Man and nature work closely together via the Rietpad at the Mulderplas in Thull. As early as 1968, Leo Meens, the third generation brewer of the adjacent Alfa Bierbrouwerij, decided to biologically purify his own production water. This continues to this day in this reed and rush field: an 'old-fashioned sustainable' system that fits perfectly with a modern, circular idea. Bacteria that live on the roots of the reeds grow in this reed bed. These bacteria convert waste products from the water into nutrients for themselves and the plant. The plant releases oxygen into the water again, which improves the water quality and purifies the water. The water then goes to the regular water purification system, where the good bacteria in this naturally purified water are used gratefully.
