The Cabot Tower is the landmark of Signal Hill. It was built in 1897 in honor of the discoverer of Newfoundland, John Cabot. There are various information boards around the tower that reveal more about the history of the tower, and in the tower itself you can still see some relics of its former use as a broadcasting tower.

The Cabot Tower on Signal Hill above the entrance to St. John's harbor was built from red sandstone in 1897 to commemorate the 400th anniversary of John Cabot's discovery of Newfoundland and is now the center of Signal Hill National Historic Park.
The tower was originally used as a flag post for the city's harbor, continuing a tradition that was started by the British Navy on Signal Hill in 1704. In 1901, Guglielmo Marconi received the first wirelessly transmitted transatlantic signal from Cornwall, England, not far from the tower: the letter "S" in Morse code. Until the 1960s, a radio station was housed on the first floor of the tower. Today, the tower houses a shop with articles on the history of the tower, an exhibition about Marconi and the broadcasting station of the Society of Newfoundland Radio Amateurs.
