The observation tower on the Breiteberg is a popular excursion destination near Zittau. The Breiteberg is about 510 m high and offers a fantastic panoramic view of the Zittau Mountains, the Lusatian Mountains and, when visibility is good, as far as the Jizera Mountains and the Giant Mountains.
The stone observation tower was built in 1900 and is now a listed building.
It is about 15 meters high and was built at the time to replace a wooden structure.
Next to the tower there is a restaurant, the "Breiteberggaststätte", where you can stop for a bite to eat.
The mountain is easily accessible via various hiking trails, e.g. from Großschönau, Hainewalde or Bertsdorf.
