A piece was sawed off from the boulders lying here. The cut surface was polished so that the structure of the rock is clearly visible. These boulders come from different parts of Europe. This is how the granite and quartzite came to our region in and on the glaciers of that time from Scandinavia in the penultimate Ice Age - 300,000 - 130,000 years ago. They are "Northern Boulders". Other boulders (including Buntsandstein) come from the south. It is believed that in wintry weather they landed on the ice of the Rhine or Meuse and when the spring thaws floated down the river on ice floes to our area. These stones are called "Southern Boulders".
