In wide areas around the Danube there are extensive gravel deposits. In particular, the wide branches of the Danube and the floodplains in the Marchfeld offer an almost inexhaustible supply. So on the border with Breitenlee the dredging work starts and a sieve chain is built. Soon you reach the groundwater (about 3m below the surface) and a pond between Ziegelhofstraße and Sparglfeldstraße arises.
