With its industrial chimney-like tower, it is an unusual church building, but well worth seeing. The inside of the church also appeals with its simple but harmonious architecture. The beautiful stained glass windows further enhance the effect.

History: The parish church was built in 1833/34 as a three-aisled brick building, which was expanded in 1929/30 while retaining parts of the old nave. According to plans by the architect Bernhard Rotterdam, a wide transept and the semi-circular apse as well as the choir tower at the transition from the transept and apse were created. In 1975-77 the church was extensively redesigned and renovated by the architects Norbert Schöningh and Hugo Nagel. The nave became single-aisled by removing the supports. In response to liturgical reform after Vatican II, the altar was relocated.

The school building opposite was built in 1838 and was extended in 1860. During the renovation in 1980/82, the building was largely gutted and an extension from 1903 was demolished.

The vicarage was added in 1842, the chaplaincy in 1868 as a double house for sexton and chaplain. As with the vicarage, the garden area is remarkable as a document of the extensive self-sufficiency of the clergy and church servants.

"Earlier, i.e. in the 17th century, the people of Traar went to the fair in Bockum, on foot.

Around 1832 the Henoumont family gave the Traarers 2 acres of land so that they could build their own church there.

The bricks were burned at the construction site from clay from the soil. Such bricks are called "field fires". The church got its current appearance after the reconstruction in 1929.
