The Grote Kerk is one of the most important national monuments in Wijk bij Duurstede, located on the Markt in the old city center.

Since the church was dedicated to John the Baptist at the time, it is also called St. John's Church or St. John Baptist Church in the literature.

The church has a brick tower, which is richly decorated with natural stone elements. The tower is one of the most important late Gothic towers in our country and, like most old towers, it is owned by the civil municipality.

The Grote Kerk in the Utrecht town of Wijk bij Duurstede is a Gothic pseudo-basilica with an unfinished tower. Until the Reformation it was dedicated to John the Baptist. For that reason it is also called St. John Baptist Church, St. John's Church or St. John's Church in literature.

The Grote Kerk and the adjacent Open Hof church center are jointly owned by the Reformed Church and the Protestant Church of Wijk bij Duurstede. Both congregations hold their services in the Grote Kerk and use the church center for all kinds of activities.

Both buildings are regularly rented out for activities that match the character of the buildings.

The Grote Kerk is within walking distance of other monuments, such as the WIJKSE MOLEN and DUURSTEDE CASTLE.
