Mdina is a medieval fortified town located in the western center of the island of Malta, on a plateau 185 meters above sea level. The origins of the city go back to the Bronze Age. The Phoenicians and Romans also settled on this high plateau. In Roman times the city was inhabited by up to 1000 people. The city was conquered by the Arabs around 870 and basically got its current form and name.

The ditch system between Mdina and Rabat has only been restored and replanted in recent years. The building shows how important protection was for the then capital in the Middle Ages.
