La Muela is a village belonging to the municipality of Santiago-Pontones, in the province of Jaén (Andalusia, Spain). It is located about 22 km approx. by road from Santiago de la Espada and about 4 km east of the village of Marchena, within the Cazorla, Segura and Las Villas Natural Park. Near the village runs the Marchena stream, which a few hundred meters to the east flows into the Zumeta river. It has a population as of January 1, 2020 according to the INE of 36 people.
The economic activity of the village and the surrounding farmhouses is mainly based on activities related to the environment, such as livestock (mountain and transhumant grazing, mainly sheep and goats), agriculture, hunting, beekeeping and production of honey, and forestry and forestry tasks.
