In the cemetery of Mechthausen is his grave. The famous picture stories like Max and Moritz, but many well-known poems, do not come from this period.
The 1.90 m tall and 200 kg heavy bronze figure of the Osnabrück sculptor Gerd Ruwe shows Wilhelm Busch as a lonely walker.
He lived very withdrawn the last 10 years of his life. The rooms he occupied in the parsonage of the village are again as well prepared as they were during Busch's lifetime around the turn of the century. A visit to the Wilhelm Busch House in Mechtshausen is worthwhile.
