The castle has existed since 1306 and was rebuilt in the Baroque style in the second half of the 17th century. For centuries, the Berka von Dubá family owned the manor and chateau. From 1632 the town and palace of Reichstadt belonged to the dukes of Saxe-Lauenburg (whose coat of arms can also be found in the town). After that, the owners changed frequently. - It is known as the summer residence of the Austrian Emperor Ferdinand I.
