          The Este meanders for 61 kilometers from its source in the Lüneburg Heath to its mouth in the Elbe near Cranz.
          In the northern part, a hiking trail leads along the water through forests and pretty towns.
          The Este hiking trail is 37 kilometers long and can be easily explored in sections, with a particularly beautiful stage at the southern end in the Nordheide:
          The starting point is the picturesque village of Bötersheim with a historic water mill with a mill pond and a thousand-year-old oak tree.
          This is somewhat hidden behind a war memorial.
          In constant ups and downs, the trail goes through dense forest along the river bank over narrow paths and bridges.
