            The "Wet Triangle"...

            This special place was created in Bergeshövede in 1916 with the construction of the Mittelland Canal, which connected to the Dortmund-Ems Canal here. The Dortmund-Ems Canal was built between 1892 and 1899 and inaugurated by Kaiser Wilhelm II. The construction of the Mittelland Canal was opened in 1905. The opening was followed with excitement by the population: it was finally decided that the canal connection to Hanover would branch off from the Dortmund-Ems Canal near Bergeshövede, thus creating the "Wet Triangle". It remains an important hub for inland shipping to this day.

            After a construction period of 9 years, the Bevergern-Minden section was opened to traffic in 1915 and the Minden-Hanover section a year later. This was also the birth of the "Wet Triangle". Over time, various buildings were built around the triangle, such as the Bergeshövede lock and several bridges.
