At the confluence of the Danube and Wörnitz lies the beautiful town of Donauwörth. A trip through the city is worth it just because of the many beautiful buildings, churches and monasteries. The central street is the Reichsstraße, an important connection between Nuremberg and Augsburg in the Roman Empire and today part of the Romantic Road. Also worth seeing is the Rieder Tor, the last remaining of four city gates in the old city wall. The “House of City History” museum is located there. Through the gate you come to the Wörnitz Island.

If you approach the Rieder Tor from the old town, you have a very nice view of it with the branch of the Danube. The environment is very attractively designed, so that the detour is worthwhile.

Nice city with a very nice pedestrian street. Very busy. You are allowed to ride your bike in the pedestrian zone, but you should ride with a lot of consideration. But that's a matter of course for us cyclists - Gell :-)

The Rieder Tor is something like the symbol of Donauwörth. It is the only surviving one of four large sally gates in Donauwörth's former city wall. Today, the Rieder Tor is home to the "House of City History".

Large and high parts of the former wall are mainly preserved on the west and east side of the old town. The city wall dates from the 15th century and originally had covered battlements and loopholes. Two of the five larger and two smaller gates have been preserved: Inner Wörnitztor, now Rieder Tor (Spitalstrasse 11), essentially medieval, rebuilt in 1810 with two round towers and a hipped roof, renewed in 1946; Färbertor (Kugelplatz 24), three-storey tower with a slightly protruding upper floor made of plastered half-timbering, gabled roof with crested hips, 2nd half of the 15th century.
