The bench of Jan Karski, a courier who risked his life during the war to inform the West about the Holocaust, was unveiled on Tuesday in front of the Remuh Synagogue in the Kazimierz district of Krakow. It is the fourth in Poland and seventh in the world bench-sculpture dedicated to Karski.

The bench is the work of the sculptor Karol Badyna from the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, who is the creator of all Jan Karski benches. In addition to Krakow, they are located in Kielce, Łódź and Warsaw, as well as in Washington, New York and Tel-Aviv.

During World War II, Jan Karski (1914-2000; properly known as Jan Kozielewski) became famous as a courier of the Polish Underground State, who was the first to provide the leaders of the Allied countries with information about the extermination of Jews. In 1998, the Israeli Yad Vashem Memorial Institute, which recognized Karski as Righteous Among the Nations, nominated him for the Nobel Peace Prize. For his activities, he was awarded the highest state decorations - the Polish Order of the White Eagle and the American Medal of Freedom. 2014 was designated by the Sejm of the Republic of Poland as the Year of Jan Karski.
