The Sierra de la Paramera, in the province of Ávila, is an essential geographical link in the Central System that links the Cuerda de los Polvisos and the Sierra de Gredos, in the upper Alberche basin. The northern slope of the Paramera de Ávila is an extensive platform of medium-altitude cattle pastures that form the Amblés Valley, whose waters flow into the Duero basin. On the other hand, the south face, with accentuated notes of glacial wear, belongs to Alberche, a tributary of the Tagus, and offers an attractive alpine environment of granite landscapes with the whimsical modeling typical of the berrocals of Gredense, in the form of domes, bowling pins, and sharp tower-shaped rock boats. The watercourses break off from the peaks through narrow gorges, creating waterfalls and torrents carved out of the hard granite mountains. The landscape of the mountain villages is pastoral and you can see traditional alleys, stone walls, ameales (haystacks around a vertical stick) and other remains of the local ethnographic heritage.
