The town of Pretschen was first mentioned in a document in 1004. To secure the Spree crossing and the border between Brandenburg and Saxony, which ran through the town until 1815, there was a fortification in Pretschen and in its successor a manor. At the end of the 18th century, the estate was put into the hands of the citizens for the first time. The existing courtyard with military character was completely demolished. The now newly built estate complex with distillery and mill has been almost completely preserved to this day and is one of the few estates in Brandenburg designed as a double courtyard. After the end of the Second World War, the company was expropriated and continued as a state-owned property (VEG) until reunification. The VEG Pretschen was an important training company for animal farmers.
Since privatization in 1999, the farm has been farmed biodynamically according to Demeter guidelines.

The Pretschen Estate isn't a polished tourist destination, but a place with quirks, edges, and character. The old distillery, with its chimney and still clock, tells of the industrial backbone of days gone by – and of people who knew how to make more than just bread from rye. Those who crave hands-on history will find more than just information panels here: a farm shop with authentic organic specialties, lots of bricks, plenty of peace and quiet – and the reassuring feeling that everything here isn't Instagram-worthy, but real. A place to look and feel.
