The nature reserve Altwarper Binnendünen, Neuwarper See and Riether Werder has a size of 1,460 hectares. It was shaped by the last glaciation and the subsequent centuries-long defrosting period. The dunes open up beautiful views up to the Polish side to Neuwarp (Nowe Warpno).
The dune areas at Altwarp cover silver grass, sheep fescue, blue-green schiller grass, mountain hairline and Carthusian carnation. The endangered kerb ant Formica foreli lives on the dunes.
