The castle was first mentioned in 1272, when it was still a mansion. From the 15th century the von Miltitz family shaped the reputation of the building. beginning of the 16th century it was Ernst von Miltitz who designed today's castle. In 1705 a baroque palace chapel was built to serve as a burial place for Moritz Heinrich von Miltitz and his wife. In the 19th century the manor house was increased again and the gable was changed in the Neo-Renaissance style.
In 1945 the last owners, von Friesen-Miltitz, were expelled from the castle.
Children's holiday camps and a village club followed. Unfortunately, the building fabric was getting worse and worse, so that an emergency backup began in 1985. In May 1990 the "Association for the preservation and cultural revitalization of Batzdorf Castle" was founded, which bought the property from the municipality of Scharfenberg. The reconstruction of the castle gained momentum through personal contributions, subsidies and foundation funds. Today there are studios, workshops, rehearsal rooms and work rooms in the castle. Individual areas are made available to the public and for cultural life.
