In Dronrijp, Eise Eisinga's birthplace, his bust stands opposite his birthplace. He attended primary school in Dronrijp and married in the Salvius Church in Dronrijp.
Eise Jelteszn Eisinga (February 21, 1744 in Dronrijp; August 27, 1828) was a Dutch wool comber. He made a name for himself as a highly gifted, self-taught amateur astronomer and author of works on mathematics and astronomy.
Eisinga is the builder of the planetarium named after him. The planetarium includes only the planets Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn, because Uranus and Neptune had not yet been discovered at the time of its completion.
It is the oldest functioning model of the solar system.
Eisinga built it in Franeker from 1774 to 1781. In 1774, a mass panic broke out in the Netherlands that a planetary alignment that year would lead to cosmic collisions.

Eisinga wanted to allay these concerns.

In 1859, the Dutch government donated the planetarium to the city of Franeker.
