Heraklion or Heraklion is the capital of the Greek island of Crete. It is one of the most important port cities in Crete. Located at the entrance to the harbor is the Venetian fortress of Koules, built in the 16th century. Heraklion impresses with its beautiful harbor with many small fishing boats and the small fish market, as well as the Archaeological Museum and the Venetian Arsenal (historic shipyards and warehouses). Many historical sights can be found in the city. The small streets with many cafes, restaurants and shops complete the picture.
