In 1854, the foundation stone of today's parish church was laid on the former parade ground of the fortress, and in the interior one of the largest organs in Brandenburg.

The current Protestant church was built between 1854 and 1859 according to the plans of the important architect Friedrich August Stüler (1800-1865) and consecrated in May 1860. The model for the Peitz church is the Berlin St. Matthäus Church at the Kunstforum. The Prussian king decreed that the building plans for this church were published in the model book "Designs for churches, parish and school buildings..." as a "church for 1500 seats". Two other "sisters" were built based on this model in Bütow (now Bytow) and Neudamm (now Debno). However, the tower of the Peitz church was built in a much simpler style than the original for cost reasons.
