OLD WALDSTÄTTER TRAIN STATION
The old train station in Waldstatt is a very impressive experience for every hiking lover.
In 1924, the old train station building in Waldstatt was demolished with horse and carriage into the bed hole. At that time, the building was initially used as a horse stable and accommodation for forest workers. For a long time afterwards, no one went there again. In 2001, Alfred Stricker, former government councilor from Stein, took the initiative to revive the old train station. A loose community of seniors was formed, the “Aktion Bettenloch”. All seniors are connected to Waldstatt. One of them is hut warden Werner Zellweger. He ensures order, maintenance and environmental work, provides firewood, maintains the path and ensures running water from the nearby ravine during the summer. Inside the hut there is information about the move of the hut, the surroundings and the previous location and pictures. The hut offers sleeping space with 8 beds on the upper floor. The basement is the living room where you can light the fire yourself. The path leads over the Steinfluh, towards Petersalp over the Alp Gerstengschwend to Bettenloch in Urnäsch. The hut is nestled in the middle of the forest rest zone and is pretty well hidden. From here up to Alp Grossbetten, the route continues on an unmarked, partly difficult to see and steep path. Inexperienced people are therefore better off taking the same route back.
