The oldest standing sacred building in Kronach. The chapel was built in 1512/13 as a test of his skills by the future master builder of the parish church (on the east side coat of arms of the Bamberg Prince Bishop Georg III Schenk von Limpurg and the year 1513). The mighty, spirally wound pillar and the cross vault inside the chapel are remarkable. Desecrated in 1805 and used as a municipal armory and ossuary since 1833, the chapel was to be demolished in 1864, which (after intervention by a few citizens of Kronach with the Bavarian King Maximilian II) was prevented by the intervention of the government of Upper Franconia at the last minute. The main operator of the demolition was the Kronach parish priest Gabriel Fellner, one of the greatest iconoclasts of his time, on whose order in 1862 the monumental epitaph of the fortress captain Christoph Neustätter, called Stürmer (died 1585), inside the Kronach parish church was also victimized by the pickaxe fell. Some fragments of this epitaph were recovered from a dump by the Kronach painter Lorenz Kaim and can now be seen in the museum of the Franconian Gallery.
