The Post Bridge connects the Loodsgracht-/Kerkgracht and the Canalweg at the Koningsplein. The name of the bridge derives from the former post office, which was located across from the bridge on Kanaalweg.
In 1932 the city council of Helder decided to replace the swing bridge from 1840 with a new fixed stone bridge. The twenty meter wide bridge was built to a design by the City Public Works Office and executed by Harlingen contractor J.Haitsma.
The core of the bridge consists of reinforced concrete; The front walls and parapets are made of mixed bricks laid with a lying joint.
The underside of the bridge has a slight arch. At the transition between land and water, at the corners of the bridge, halfway up the balustrade, four brick high masts with copper light ornaments are built on all four sides. This is also the case at the top. On the side of the bridge there is a sandstone band with the name "POSTBRUG" with the municipal coat of arms of Den Helder in the middle, all painted in yellow/red. The style of the bridge corresponds to that of the Amsterdam School.
