View of Hornberg Castle

According to the oldest documents, Hornberg Castle was a Gaugrafenburg and later a knight's castle at a steep 228.6 m above sea level. NHN high mountain spur above the Neckar valley above the town of Neckarzimmern between Bad Wimpfen and Mosbach. The spur castle originally consisted of two independent castle complexes with a common outer bailey, which were later enclosed by a wall. Götz von Berlichingen lived at Hornberg Castle for 45 years, for which he was already enthusiastic as a teenager. The winery belonging to the castle, the second oldest still existing winery in the world according to documents, operates traditional viticulture on steep terraces below the castle.

The castle was named "Monument of the Month August 2013" by the Monument Foundation Baden-Württemberg.
