Oban Distillery is both one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland and one of the smallest with just two pot stills. Pre-dating the town of Oban, it was originally established in 1794 by brothers John and Hugh Stevenson. It underwent a refurbishment in the 1890s and there has been little change to the present buildings since then. The distillery's tours offer visitors the chance to witness the traditional craftsmanship of whiskey production first-hand before enjoying complimentary drams of the Oban 14 year old West Highland Malt

A good small tour and excellent experience in Oban. In the summer / high season it may be necessary to book as it can be very busy - don't expect to turn up and get a tour on the same day.
The distillery is easy to find, right on the water front, and its distinct red chimney can be spotted from several places in the town.

Oban is one of my absolute favorite types of whiskey - mild, but with flavor and without peat. A visit to the distillery with a guided tour and subsequent tasting is recommended if you are on site and interested in whiskey. In addition, the distillery building also has flair and characterizes the city with its chimney, which can be seen from afar.
