From the late Middle Ages, large, scattered farmsteads in the new Kögen were added to the original settlement axis on the beach wall. From the 18th century onwards, the chain of dwellings on the sand embankment grew closer to today's town centre, Dorfstraße. Two fires destroyed the entire village street: while all the houses south of the church burned down in 1753, exactly 100 years later it hit the northern part. The thatched roofs of the closely standing houses had caught fire, which is why these roofs are no longer permitted in the village today. Because of the justified fear of a fire in the days of thatched roofs, the station was built so far away from the village; one feared the sparks of the locomotive. Of the once 33 Haubargen, the typical, magnificent Eiderstedt farmhouses that still existed in Witzwort at the beginning of the 19th century, only three have been preserved in their pure form: the former Henningshof (flee village), the Gragehof (south) and the red one Haubarg (Adolfskoog).
