However, leashed dogs are welcome on most hiking trails within the park, including many accessible from the North Shore. For families, several easy walks and trails are accessible from the North Shore. The Tumbled Rocks Trail, a relatively flat and paved path along the lake's edge, is excellent for strollers and young children. The Grottos Trail offers a short, scenic loop with interesting rock formations. For a slightly more adventurous but still manageable option, parts of the East Bluff Trail near the Chateau offer stunning views without requiring a full strenuous climb.

The lake is ideal for paddle sports as gasoline engines are forbidden, ensuring a tranquil environment. The water warms up quickly, making it comfortable for swimming and paddling from early June through August.

North Shore Beach is well-equipped with amenities for a comfortable visit. You'll find multiple bathhouses with changing rooms and showers, picnic tables, and public grills. There are also play areas for children. The historic Chateau, located on the North Shore, offers food and souvenirs, adding to the convenience.

While North Shore Beach is primarily a summer destination, Devil's Lake State Park offers winter activities. The park's trails are popular for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and winter hiking, offering a serene and beautiful experience amidst snow-covered bluffs. Always check park conditions and trail accessibility before a winter visit, as some areas may be closed or require specific gear.

The historic Chateau on the North Shore offers some food and souvenir options. For more extensive dining and accommodation, the nearby city of Baraboo (just south of the park) provides a variety of cafes, restaurants, and lodging choices. The Wisconsin Dells area, a short drive away, also offers numerous tourist amenities.

For a day trip, consider packing swimwear, towels, sunscreen, and plenty of water, especially if you plan to swim or paddle. For hiking, sturdy hiking shoes or boots are essential, as many trails involve uneven terrain and significant elevation changes. Layers of clothing are advisable, as weather can change.
