Padre Pio is by far the most popular saint in Italy, and television films about him have record viewership numbers. In a 2008 survey, Italy's Catholics said they turn to Padre Pio first when it comes to matters of faith.

† September 23, 1968 in San Giovanni Rotondo near Foggia in Italy.

In 1918, the five stigmata of Christ suddenly appeared on his body, making him the first priest in the history of the Catholic Church to experience the stigmatization that remained visible until his death. Despite the rule of silence imposed on him, the miracle soon became widely known, then the first pilgrims came to Padre Pio in his monastery in San Giovanni Rotondo and experienced him at his masses as if he were removed from reality.

This statue of Padre Pio is placed in a particular place. For those who undertake some of the routes starting from Assisi this will be the last point where they can clearly see the Basilica. On the contrary, for those arriving, this will be the first view of the building that houses the remains of St. Francis. The statue is directly facing the Basilica complex.
