The park opened in 1975 and today has over 32 rides and nine shows on approximately 33 acres. Even though it is difficult to divide them into subject areas, Gardaland can be classified as a theme park because every attraction is themed. Main attraction points in the park are beside the roller coasters the water attractions and theme trips.
The "Gardaland Hotel Resort" rated four stars in 2004 created an overnight stay with 247 rooms in the immediate vicinity of the park. In 2005, in a study published by the business magazine Forbes, the park was voted the 5th most successful amusement park in the world. [3]
Since 2006, the newly built "Gardaland Theater" with a compilation of large American musicals for about 2,500 park visitors place. In the summer months, the park is open until 11pm and visitors are offered lights, light and laser shows, and fireworks once a week.

In October 2006, 90.8% of Gardaland for approximately 500 million euros were acquired by the Blackstone Group and integrated into the Merlin Entertainments Group.
In Milan, the water park "Aquatica by Gardaland" was opened in 2007, which since 2008 is called "Gardaland Waterpark". In 2008, the resort's third park was opened with a Sea Life Center. Furthermore opened in the 2008 season, a new roller coaster in the park, a 1030 meter long mine roller coaster of Vekoma called Mammut with the theme "glacier".
2011 opened another new roller coaster in the park of B & M with the name Raptor.
