The town of Vohburg an der Donau is located on the northern border of the district of Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm, about 15 km downstream from Ingolstadt. The old town is framed by the rivers of the Danube, Kleine Donau and Paar. The Ilm also flows on the southern edge of the town. Vohburg could therefore be called the four-river town. The next largest watercourse in Vohburg is the Mailinger Bach, which flows into the Danube to the north.
Neighbouring communities are Ernsgaden, Geisenfeld, Großmehring, Manching, Münchsmünster, Oberdolling, Pförring. Vohburg is also on the border with Hallertau.
