We would like to take you back in time…
The name “Cape Forests” originated from the purchase of this forest area in the mid-18th century by Hendrik van Swellengrebel. After 38 years in the service of the V.O.C., including 12 years as governor of the Cape Colony in South Africa, 'Kaapse Hendrik' returned to Holland in 1752. Here he bought the Schoonoordt estate in Doorn with the adjacent forest. These reminded him so much of the savannahs in South Africa that he named the area the Cape Forests.
The hill on which the Chalet is built dates from earlier centuries and is named after Hendrik's daughter, Helena. In 1932, the then owner of the Cape Forests, Mr Klein, a lawyer in Doorn, had the Châlet built as a tea house for hikers. In 1957 the heirs left the entire forest with Châlet Helenaheuvel to the Association of Natural Monuments.
The tea house has now been thoroughly renovated and we would like to welcome you, after a brisk walk through the Cape forests, to enjoy the beautiful natural beauty around Châlet Helenaheuvel while enjoying a snack and a drink.
It is also possible to organize drinks, dinners and weddings as well as your business meetings at our location. We have put together a number of suggestions to give you an idea of the options and prices. The final choice for the culinary interpretation lies with you! We would be happy to make an appointment to discuss your wishes.
