The Place de l'Hôtel-de-Ville, designed by Perret, is one of the largest in Europe. The harmonious whole consists of three-storey buildings with roof terraces, alternating with 10-storey tower blocks. The square is decorated with ponds, fountains and galleries covered with yew arches and hornbeams. At the center is a memorial: the "two wounded birds" by the sculptor Adam symbolize the deportations and the resistance.

A tower of rough concrete rises above the austere town hall.

At the time of it's post-WW II reconstruction this was supposedly the largest urban square in Europe at the center of the largest urban redevelopment area.

Whether or not these claims are accurate (some larger Japanese and German rebuilt cities come to mind), the architectural beauty may be debatable, but in this almost completely destroyed city an impressive number of buildings and areas were designed by one architect Auguste Perret (12 février 1874 - 25 février 1954), resulting in a somewhat cohesive ensemble, which won him and the city praise, including UNESCO world heritage status in 2005 ( fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centre-ville_reconstruit_du_Havre ). A large modern formal park and fountain create a more inviting atmosphere now.

Le Havre at the Seine estuary is the largest city in Normandy and known for the large seaport.

During the Second World War, the city was badly damaged and subsequently rebuilt in a uniform style. The main responsible for the reconstruction of the entire city was the architect Auguste Perret. From him also comes the town hall with the 72 meter high tower and the largest town square in Europe.
