The Clausthal flood trench runs on the eastern slope of the Bruchberg through a very water-rich area. The ditch zapft u.a. the upper reaches of the Sieber and various smaller Oder tributaries.
In 1827, the Clausthal flood trench was completed. It has a hydraulic capacity of more than 100 liters of water per second. The ditch leads this water to the hub and thus ultimately to the ditch. This once led to the water wheels of the mines in and around Clausthal.

The Clausthaler flood ditch represents an outstanding technical masterpiece. It also shows the enormous effort that was used in the past to supply energy to the Harz silver mines.

Today, the moat, which is part of the roughly 50 kilometer Dammgraben system and is entirely handcrafted, is a listed building. He is also an active member of the water network system and UNESCO World Heritage "Upper Harz Water Regale". On the Clausthaler Flutgrabens you can walk along a beautiful path and get to know the water management structure closer.

History:
The Clausthaler Flutgraben is a 4120 meter long moat in the Upper Harz. It runs on the eastern slope of the Bruchberg through a very water-rich area. The trench taps among other things the upper reaches of the Sieber as well as various smaller Oder tributaries.
The Clausthaler Flutgraben is part of the 50-kilometer dam ditch system of the "Upper Harz Water Regale", a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In 1827 it was built entirely by hand.
